Shoulda gone with my first instincts

Shoulda gone with more first instincts. The CHB story about Bush and the Niger documents has been retracted by CHB. Apparently, their source has disappeared, and none of the "confirming" information he provided has checked out. Of course, since then, both the BBC and the Guardian - respected news sources - have reported a similar story, the Guardian with an on the record source. And at least CHB had the decency to retract the story. But I think I will wait to see it in other publications, in the future, before I mention it.

Now, I am sure that a lot of people on the right will trumpet this as "proof" that the reports of Bush's deception or incompetence on this issue are incorrect. Nonsense. These reports pre-dated this story by quite some time, and, as I have said, similar reports have appeared in the Guardian and the BBC and American news outlets. This one story - about a man who claimed to have been in a meeting with Bush - is bogus. But the pattern still remains. And no weapons have been found. Bush is either still lying, or still incompetent, even if the CHB is more incompetent than he is.
