It looks like Mondale

Mondale Likely To Yield to Pleas To Run for Senate (washingtonpost.com)
Nothing is going to be official until after the services, but it looks like Mondale will accept being placed on the ballot:
With control of the Senate possibly at stake, a family source said Wellstone’s two surviving sons will soon make it clear that they hope Mondale will succeed their father. One of Mondale’s former aides, who has spoken to him several times since Friday, said the former vice president was still discussing the abrupt change in the political landscape with his wife, Joan, and his son Ted. But the former staffer added: “There’s a good chance he will do it. He’s often said that the best years of his political life were the Senate years.”
So, if I have any Minnesotta readers - is Mondale a big enough name to overcome the loss of the absentee ballots?

I’m thinking if Mondale isn’t a big-enough name, then there just isn’t a big-enough name. As a onetime protege of HHH, he’s very popular within the DFL.
Not really sure how the absentee ballots will affect things, either, it’s hard to tell how many there are. The race has been fairly neck-and-neck throughout, although Paul pulled ahead with a 5-7% lead after his Iraq vote. I don’t foresee Mondale pulling any votes from Coleman; however if he plays his cards right he might boost the turnout.

Aren’t most absentee ballots in MN requested this last week anyway? And can’t anyone just go to the polls and vote even if they’ve already voted absentee? So this might not even be a big problem…

I agree with John Robinson, if Mondale isn’t a big enough name than there isn’t any in Minnesota.
He continues to be a well-recognized, well-respected person here and is the best choice. I think it was the right choice and many Wellstone! supporters are already lining up behind him. He’ll be able to get people to come out and vote building on the momentum created through various memorials and marches the past couple of days.
It’s been a tough few days here, but there is Hope!
Viva Wellstone!!
