Time To Leave Iraq
There is no point anymore. No one wants us there:
Leaders of Iraq’s sharply divided Shiites, Kurds and Sunnis called Monday for a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces in the country and said Iraq’s opposition had a “legitimate right” of resistance.
The final communique, hammered out at the end of three days of negotiations at a preparatory reconciliation conference under the auspices of the Arab League, condemned terrorism, but was a clear acknowledgment of the Sunni position that insurgents should not be labeled as terrorists if their operations do not target innocent civilians or institutions designed to provide for the welfare of Iraqi citizens.
The leaders of Iraq have just told everyone in the country that killing US soldiers is just peachy. It is time to go.
It would be interesting to read the text of the comminique, not someone’s interpretation of the comminique.
Let’s consider the opening lines of the similarCNN article that is referenced by way of the Daily Kos post.
So they should not be labeled terrorist if these conditions are meant. So that pretty much strikes out at least 90% of the “Minutement and revolutionaries” as they have openly committed hostile acts against Iraqis. Clearly, this is hardly an endorsement for Al-Queada or any other group of the such.
The next paragraph…
So they’re calling for a pulling out of our forces…on a timetable. The same timetable that we have already been discussing with the government. No calls for immediate withdrawl. Quite the opposite is true, actually.
Hmmm…so the Sunni Arabs must be watching CNN…
And while we’re pointing out facts (We know how much the moonbats hate facts,) let’s point out who it was that this conference seems to have been aimed at. Sunnis. Virtually every pararaph mentions Sunni demands, countered by the Shiite and Kurd leaders. The article is full of “Sunnis sought…” followed by some radical demand, met half-heartedly by the MAJORITY representatives. The entire conference served to try and drag the Sunnis into the process a little more. The requests we’re reading are from the majority, former Saddam supporting Bathists.
And it’s a shock that they would want us out? In response, the other two MAJORITY ethnic groups are working to find middle ground language to avoid alienating the MINORITY group and yet stay on good terms with the West.
So we have the former Bathists (and MINORITY population,) unhappy with having lost power, complaining about our presence. You have the two MAJORITY popluations toning down the rehetoric and trying to make a politicial compromise and arguing plainly that a pull-out would be bad for the country. And this translates to the American left as “Iraqis want us out or dead!” Yes, welcome to life amount the “reality-based.”
Wacko
I notice that you left out the part wher the leaders of Iraq have okayed attacks on US troops. That is kinda important.
And I thought that setting a timetable was cutting and running? That’s what Bush says anytime someone brings it up. I timetable would just tell the terrorists that they can wait us out, isn;t that the line? So if the Bush Administration is working on a timeline for withdrawl, they are doing it with the wrong words, wouldn’t you say?
Stop and think for a moment about how badly this has been mucked up when the people who benefited most form the American invasion — the current leaderhsip of Iraq — are telling insurgents that it is acceptable to kill American soldiers.
I have not interpreted any “okay” by Iraq consensus leadership to kill U.S. troops.
