Drunken Lullabies
Mar 25
Becasue Julia commands …
Must it take a life for hatful eyes
To glisten once again
Five hundred years like Gelignite
Have blown us all to hell
What savior rests while on his cross we die
Forgotten Freedom burns
Has the Shepard led his lambs astray
to the bigot and the gun
Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin’ drunken lullabies
I watch and stare as Rosin`s eyes
Turn a darker shade of red
And the bullet with this sniper lie
In their bloody gutless cell
Must we starve on crumbs from long ago
Through these bars of men made steel
Is it a great or little thing we fought
Knelt the conscience blessed to kill
Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin’ drunken lullabies
Ah, but maybe it`s the way you were taught
Or maybe it`s the way we fought
But a smile never grins without tears to begin
For each kiss is a cry we all lost
Though there is nothing left to gain
But for the banshee that stole the grave
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin’ drunken lullabies
I sit in and dwell on faces past
Like memories seem to fade
No colour left but black and white
And soon will all turn grey
But may these shadows rise to walk again
With lessons truly learnt
When the blossom flowers in each our hearts
Shall beat a new found flame
Must it take a life for hateful eyes
To glisten once again
Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singin’ drunken lullabies

Since you and Julia have already covered The Pogues and Flogging Molly, I’m going to have to skip “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” and search further. Problem is a lot of my music is Canadian folk and Canadian folkies don’t have as much reason to do anti-war stuff as American ones do.

You have any idea how impressed I am that you recognized the Molly’s? As far as I can tell, I ma the only person in the state of Tennesee who knows who they are

I was in a “Irish shop” in Niagara Falls Canada and some tourists were looking at the CD racks and one of them said “check out this funny name for a band - Flogging Mollys”. I practically snatched the CD out of their hand, because it was “Within a Mile of Home” and I didn’t have that one yet. Turns out the CD case was empty because it was in the store CD changer!
If you like the Mollys, have you heard The Tossers, Dropkick Murphys, or Black 47?

I can take or leave the Murphys. Some of their stuff is great, but some of it is really bad. There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground with them.
I love black 47, but I haven’t heard of the Tossers.
