Maybe you can tell me: what’s the big deal with Gmail? Why would I want an account? What does it do for you that a regular e-mail account won’t do (and that you probably have anyway if you run a blog or Web site)?

Gmail is like sex.* You really can’t understand how good it is until you try it.
For me its the labels, and the threaded conversations, and the ability to use various email accounts (my work, blog, etc.) all in one place and have the freedom to send a unique return address (i.e., jpcarter@cbhd.org) from my Gmail account.
But the thing I love best is that it has become my filing system. I can use the GmailThis! bookmarklet or I can simply email myself and save links, articles, documents, or anything else I find on the web. I can even set up an address based on my label, inlude a filter, and have it automatically file something away. For example if I set up NotSpam all I have to do is send an email to NotSpam from my Gmail account and have it bypass my inbox and filed away under the “NotSpam” label.
I also love that I don’t have to remember where I filed something or who said what. I have all of my comments emailed to my account. So if I’m looking up “Kevin Keith Bioethics” it will pull up every email and comment that you ever wrote that includes that term.
*Of course, I’m only referring to marital sex…between one man and one woman. ; )
Personally, I detest the gmail interface, although it has improved somewhat recently. If you’re a pack rat who never deletes anything (but who categorizes nothing), you might like it, I suppose.
The bad news is, Yahoo mail is switching to a new interface that I’m not fond of, either.
Gmail sucks. Everytime I go there (which is infrequently) I am reminded of how badly it’s designed, and I think…”Gee, I’m glad I don’t use this regularly”.
Where’s the compose button? I forgot. Ack.
The bookmarking system might be a good idea but I haven’t tried it yet.
I am a proud Gmail user. Never worrying about email size, incredibly fast reply (powered by AJAX, a technology often used by Google), Web Clips,
automatic forwarding, one button - click search, advanced filters, labels and not folders, message preview, automatic refresh, auto-save messages,as-good-as-yahoomail spam filters, not one executable to be sent or received, feeling of having a different technology? A definite recommendation for
anyone that reads more than one email per day.
Have you tried Gmail? If yes, what's your taste on it? Why do you love it/hate it?
It’s you.
Least I haven’t had any probs.
