Quote of the Day, 2006-11-15

Me, today:
Frankly, this is an area where I sincerely hope I’m wrong. Nothing would make me happier than to learn that our invasion of Iraq was not a counterproductive waste of life, and did not further destabilize an already-unstable region of the world, and did not further fan the flames of anti-Americanism and Islamism. If standing on a mountaintop and proclaiming “Hitchens was right, I was wrong!” made it so, and made the sacrifices worthwhile, and made the war winnable, I would do it in a heartbeat. But that’s looking more and more like wishful thinking.
From comments here.

The football has to be played from where it’s at and never where we want it to be. Iraq was a fumble. Let’s hope the D’s recover the ball and somehow get it into the end zone.
No Republican president has ever won a war unless you want to count the civil war, couldn’t lose fighting self and Regan’s invasion of the tiny island nation of Grenada. All war winners are liberal Democrats. So there’s a breath of hope this one might be won if Bush finally gets some good advice. Winning at this stage could be withdrawing or it could be something else. The election set the stage for winning whatever is left to win, just getting out may well be that.
What’s the word? mega.. megalom… megalomanic?
“All war winners are liberal Democrats”
Most major war starters have been liberal democrats.
Keep dreaming. We all know now that this whole Iraq thing was a very sad sham, costing us many human lives and it will effect the way the world views the US for a very long time. On the positive side, Bush et al have ignited a streak of activism, engagement, and political discourse not seen since the 60’s. Wrote about it a bit more at length over at my site http://www.JerryKolber.com. Thanks for keeping it real.
