What Did You Get For Christmas?

I got a proven pitcher.  I guess I need to rescind my anti-Brewers grievance.

I received the best pitcher in Japan (notwithstanding the gyroball hype), a pretty fair hitting SS with some pop and good speed (Boston is back to the “defense is over-rated” formula), and a corner outfielder who, when healthy, is an elite player. I’m still hoping to receive a closer. Maybe he is in the mail..

I am also pleased with what I didn’t get - a trade for Manny or any blockbuster news from the evil empire in Gotham.

Having said that, I do miss the good old days before competing in the AL East became the equivalent of a nuclear arms race. The salary structure in baseball is a joke. When the highest payroll is ten times the lowest payroll, how can competitiveness survive? And don’t talk to me about World Series winners. Any student of baseball understands that competitiveness is measured over a 162 game season, not a best of seven playoff.

I don’t know. My present from my husband and son is lost in the UPS somewhere. I did get some soap, candles, towels from family. A book on art.
But, I was to get some oil paint. So I gave them a list of 4 different brands and stores and what colors. They ordered it around my birthday of the 12th and it did not come. I’ll let you know if it ever does
