What a time for Romo to turn into Lucy Van Pelt….
What a time for Romo to turn into Lucy Van Pelt….
Royalty was like dandelions. No matter how many heads you chopped off, the roots were still there underground, waiting to spring up again.
It seemed to be a chronic disease. It was as if even the most intelligent person had this little blank spot in their heads where someone had written: "Kings. What a good idea." Whoever had created humanity had left in a major design flaw. It was its tendency to bend at the knees.
-- Terry Pratchett, Feet of Clay
Hey, he couldn’t have done it without Terry Glenn’s help… Didn’t get to see the game, but sorry. Don’t worry, though — you still have a team in the playoffs until NEXT week.

The shame of it, that was their best game in weeks. Romo was efficient, Jones was effective, special teams were great (a fifty yard field goal, a kickoff return for a TD and almost no big returns allowed), and the defense bent but didn’t break. Two weird plays — a fumble that bounced out of the end zone for a safety and that missed field goal — the attempt of which came after a real questionable reversal of a first down spot — killed them. And even when he botched the hold, Romo almost made the end zone running.

Kevin, unless you are a Texas transplant, you have no business supporting “America’s Team.” TO should be reason enough to cure you. Get behind your Titans. And watch as the Ravens win their second championship this decade…
(I will grant you the spot reversal was pretty iffy. I think it ended up being the correct call, but I don’t think there was strong enough visual evidence to justify overruling the original spot.)

I was born in Texas, believe it or not. I have been a Cowboys fan — much to the disgust of by largely Chicago based family — since I was a kid.
The call was close enough that if it had been called the other way on the field, I would have understood. Like you, I don’t think that replay was anywhere near conclusive, though. Maybe all the whining the Seahawks did after the Super Bowl last year paid off

Ted:
You root for a team whose most recognizeable star got away with being an accessory to murder with no consequences, and you’re lecturing Kevin for who he roots for?
I didn’t see the game (in fact, I didn’t see any games this weekend), so I can’t comment on the spot. And I agree about the Seahawks whining — not to mention their fans. But Holmgren has always whined about officiating, even dating back to his Green Bay days.

Tgirsch, I granted Kevin an exclusion based on previous residence in Texas. My beef is with non-local bandwagon fans (mostly Cowboys fans back in the Aikman days, Yankees fans from any era, and Lakers fans). And this has nothing to do with my support of Redskins, Red Sox and Celtics - the rivalry alignment is pure coincidence.
And Lewis was never charged with accessory to murder. Murder, yes, but not accessory.

This makes it better how? If I remember correctly, the prosecution bit off more than it could chew. If the charge had been accessory, a conviction would have been more likely. In any case, Lewis seems to be an order of magnatude worse than T.O., at least if actions off the football field count.

Tgirsch, I did not claim this makes it better. I was merely straightening you out on the facts.
At a minimum, Lewis was in the wrong place with the wrong people at the wrong time. Put another way, he probably exercised poor judgment to even be in the vicinity of the crime. Having said that, he was never in trouble before then and has not been in trouble since then. Not knowing what happened or what, if any, part Lewis played in the murders, I give him the benefit of the doubt. As I have mentioned before, I have no illusions about professional athletes being good role models or good people. In general, I believe most of them are poor role models and a lot of them are not good people. I am a fan of how they contribute to the success of their team, period. In my opinion, TO is the penultimate poor teammate and exerts significant negative influence on team chemistry. In San Francisco, in Philly, in Dallas, and no doubt wherever he ends up next year (which won’t be Dallas). We can talk about their non-sports related issues at their funeral
