Another Reason to Hate Ohio State
Posted by tgirsch

The first half just ended.  As if I needed another reason to hate Ohio State (I already have many), they embarass the conference by going out there in the first half and getting their asses handed to them by a Florida team that need luck to beat friggin’ South Carolina. And what egregiously awful coaching. When was the last time you saw a team start playing prevent in the first quarter? Half the time, only six or seven Ohio State defenders are on the screen. A three-in-the-box strategy just doesn’t work all that often, Mr. Tressel!

And what horrid officiating! The “roughing the passer” call that led to Ohio State’s only offensive touchdownwas complete bogus. Why not play two-handed touch, or make them wear skirts back there? And on at least three occasions, I’ve seen Florida linemen tackle their defensive counterparts. Apparently, there’s no such thing as holding, nor any such thing as an illegal block in the back. But if you even look at a quarterback funny, fifteen yards, bub.

Full disclosure: As much as I hate Ohio State, it’s against my religion to ever root for a Florida team. Any Florida team. Gators, Seminoles, Hurricanes, Golden Knights; doesn’t matter. I hate ‘em all. So this game sucks for me: Team I hate versus team I hate even more.
OK, now that that little rant is out of the way, a question for the readership. Set aside conference and team loyalties, and ask yourself this: which is more embarrassing for the B(C)S? Ohio State getting its ass kicked and having one Division I team undefeated (and not the national champion)? Or Ohio State pulling it out, and the season ending with two undefeateds?

Having attended a school that played in a league not much stronger than some high school leagues, I don’t have much interest in college football. Except for my local team, Navy. Their option offense is fun to watch if only because it is so different from what you see in the NFL.

You’re right to feel embarassed. Those sour grapes of yours are sweet tasting to me.

Hard to call ‘em sour grapes, exactly, given that I hate both teams. Ohio State got it handed to them, no question. Take nothing away from the Gators, who were superior in literally every aspect. The Buckeyes got out-hustled, out-played, and most importantly, out-coached.

I simply would have preferred to see a better game, irrespective of who won.

For what it’s worth, my rooting interest is in Wisconsin, and they won their bowl game (over an SEC opponent, no less).

By the way, Fred, I didn’t realize you were a Florida fan. I don’t recall you having mentioned it before.

Why would I have mentioned it? I’m a fan of the SEC.

Penn State fan here. Michigan and Ohio State were both huge disappointments in their bowls.

Not to me. I enjoyed it.

Fred, so you pull for an entire conference, and have no rooting interest in any particular team?

I pull for (prefer) various teams at various times for various reasons. Why do you ask?

I have one team I pull for more than others. However, I am able to prefer one team over another in most ballgames. Why is that so unusual?

What’s unusual is your unwillingness to say what team that is. A real sports fan identifies his allegiances proudly, win or lose, like I do with the Brewers, Maple Leafs, Packers, and Badgers, and to a lesser extent, the Bengals, Canucks, Penguins, and Bucks. Or like Kevin does with the Blackhawks, Cowboys, White Sox, Bears, Red Sox, and to a lesser extent, Boilermakers. Or like Ted did with Navy. Or like Stormy did with Penn State. So why is which team YOU root for a big secret? That smacks of a fair-weather fan, declaring allegiance to a team only when that team is playing well.

And by the way, why did you say you enjoyed Michigan’s loss in comment #7, or weren’t you talking about that? They didn’t even play an SEC team in their bowl game.

It’s not a big secret. You’ve never asked me what team I’m a fan of. I thought the thread was about OSU and Florida.

I am glad Ohio State had it handed to them.
I live and work in Columbus but hate nearly everything about this ugly campus.
(They have excellent Graduate Schools in Medicine, Vet School and Dance.)
The under grad school sucks. But they don’t care about academia here –it’s the Bucks.
Let’s see-75% of the season is a warm up for the remaining 25%
At least 8 games ( or more) per season are at home.
They play in state MAC schools at a lower tier.
Tressel has more dirty secrets from his other programs and they are building here.
The Grad students who teach these thugs in class are told to pass them WITHOUT question.
    It’s a joke.
As for the Gators, at least the state of Florida has more than one thing to talk about and the media is not so biased. People here actually get angry if you are from another town cheering for your alma mater. The sun sets and rises on this dung heap of a campus on High Street.
Go Gators. Bucks are pathetic. the 38th easiest schedule in the NCAA.
Over inflated opionion of themselves. Go ANYBODY but “Ohia” State.
