Dick Armey should resign: Dick Armey is a coward who has already resigned:
Q: You voted for the resolution to go to war.
A: I did, and I’m not happy about it. The resolution was a resolution that authorized the president to take that action if he deemed it necessary. Had I been more true to myself and the principles I believed in at the time, I would have openly opposed the whole adventure vocally and aggressively. I had a tough time reconciling doing that against the duties of majority leader in the House. I would have served myself and my party and my country better, though, had I done so.
Armey is not admitting that he was wrong, not really. He is not saying that if he knew then what he knows now, he would have done things differently. He is not saying that he was a believer in the theory of bringing democracy to a nation by invading it but that the last three years have convinced him otherwise. Armey is saying that he thought going to war was a bad idea but that he voted for it anyway because he felt his political obligations were more important than his obligations to the country. Armey failed the nation on the most important question in a generation, and he failed them not because he as deceived or because he was wrong about the nature of democracy and war. He failed the country because he refused to serve its needs before he served the needs of the leaders of his party.
Armey has failed the country in the most spectacular way and should have the decency to remove himself from the Congress, so that he is not in a position to repeat that failure. Which is why its a good thing he is no longer in Congress.
I hate Mondays …
By that logic shouldn’t all the Democrats who voted for the war resign as well? They also put their politics ahead of their country.

If any of them admit it, like Armey did, then yes, they should. I think, too, you underestimate just how deep seated the notion of blowing sh*t up as a problem solver is among the political class in this country. A lot of Dems thought a military solution to Iraq was going to be in the best interest of the country eventually anyway.

If I were Armey, I would resign retroactive to 2003…

All Democrats and a lot of sensible Republicans in Texas know Armey is an Asshole–is, was, will be. Who cares WHAT he has to say now–He can go coagulate with Tom Delay in the sour milk bowl somewhere…
