Calling Out Conservatives
Posted by tgirsch

If you’re not willing to admit that Cheney’s recent claim that he’s not required to release documents because “he’s not part of the executive branch” is complete and total bullshit, you’re nothing but a mindless dittohead, and should probably be kept away from sharp objects.

As a side note, if this doesn’t convince you that this administration holds both the American people and the rule of law in utter contempt, what would?

That is all.

To be fair, this particular incident only shows that Chaney holds the rule of law in contempt, as well as thinking that the American people are incredibly stupid. Then again, almost half of them voted for Bush and Chaney to be relected.

Who pays the salary of the VP? Which branch?

The American people pay the VP’s salary. Which budget is it allocated under? Not sure. But the fact that Chaney has already claimed Executive Privilege clues me in to which branch he really thinks he serves under.

The public reason given for non-compliance is not the reason as explained by the VP’s attorneys. They do not claim a constitutional basis for their position, but rather base it on the language of the specific executive order they object to. Their reasoning is that the order only specified compliance by agencies within the Executive, and the VP is not an agency, therefor the order does not apply to him or his immediate staff. (Disclaimer - the above explanation is a highly simplified version of their argument.)

What amazes me is that the public explanation was so badly mangled, and is absurd by any standard. Also, let’s keep in mind what the VP is objecting to: he does not want his handling of secret material to be evaluated - as it is for all agencies within the Executive, and as he himself allowed for several years. Of all the issues to grandstand on, this is an amazing choice.

I’m with Stormy on this one. This type of behavior is hardly a recent development for this administration. It’s not even a second-term development. This is just the most recent example.
