GOP Losing War on Al Qaida

Bush is losing the war on terrorism:
U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The Associated Press has learned.
The conclusion suggests that the group that launched the most devastating terror attack on the United States has been able to rebuild despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.
Still, numerous government officials say they know of no specific, credible threat of a new attack.
Iraq is not the central front in the war on terrorism, it is a distraction. Despite the full focus of the United States, al Qaida has rebuilt itself. It is now as strong as it was in 2001. Why? Iraq. The war in Iraq took troops away form Afghanistan. That allowed al Qaida and Taliban members to escape capture and provided the breathing room they needed to begin to plan and rebuild. The invasion of Iraq has tied down American intelligence assets and special forces units, in addition to regular military units, that should be being used to hunt down al Qaida members. Iraq has provided a generation’s worth of recruiting posters for al Qaida. It is now easy for them to point to Fallujah and Abu Gahrab and the horror that is today’s Baghdad and say
The war in Iraq is lost. It was lost the day Bush decided to invade. They shattered the government of a country that had only been kept together by blood and violence, and they did it with a force far too small for the task, no plan for dealing with the day after the government fell, and nothing but derisive taunts for the professionals who tried to tell them just how hard a task they had undertaken. The country is in the middle of a civil wart that started because of the stupidity of the GOP and the fecklessness of its leadership. No amount of surging or wishful thinking or will can change that. The only question remains is how much worse will the GOP let this get. Will they stop the madness in Iraq before al Qaida grows so strong that we cannot suppress them in our, or perhaps even in our children’s, lifetimes?
The GOP has lost the war in Iraq. Will they let their fear of admitting to their mistakes lose the war on Al Qaida too?

Is this the same intelligence agency that told us Sadaam had WMDs?
Comment 7/12/2007
No, Fred, the intelligence agecies did not tell us that Saddam had WMDs. They were stovepiped and pressured until their actual work — not perfect, but not the slam dunk case you want to pretend we were told — was buried under an avalanche of Administration bs.

“No, Fred, the intelligence agecies did not tell us that Saddam had WMDs.”
LOL You’re a funny man. Your Bush Hatred Syndrome has fried your brain. However, even you cannot revise history.

I see that your memory is as poor as your reasoning skills:

What a great list of sources! Although I’ve disagreed with you on almost everything you’ve ever said, I always believed you were earnest in your perverted views. However, this is just sad. You have lost your mind. You liberals have spent 6 years talking about the flawed intelligence that led to 9/11 and the Iraq war.

Ever noticed that when Fred gets flustered he never actually addresses the point of the argument or the facts involved, he just calls people names and then pretends the evidence just presented either:
A) Doesn’t exist.
B) Is somehow biased if comes from any non-GOP approved source (like the CIA)
C) Says the the exact opposite of what is really being stated.
Seriously Fred, respond to those links. Tell us that they are all lies, tell us they are all biased, tell us that the fantasy the GOP spun to lie the country into a stupid war we can’t win never happened.
And then consider, do you love the Republicans that much, that you will follow them off whatever cliff they want us all to jump off of.
Just go back to FOX and Rush, they’ll make you feel better.

I wouldn’t be so quick to let the Democrats totally off the hook on this, either. A lot of them, including many who still hold office, were too spineless to openly oppose this silly war until it was too late. The fault split is still 90/10 for the GOP of course, but still…

Here we go again.

It’s hard to hit a moving target. If you libs would ever find a position and stick to it, it wouldn’t be so hard to respond. First, everyone believed Sadaam had WMDs. (That was while a liberal was in the White House.) Then, the intelligence agencies couldn’t find their rear ends. The intelligence was flawed. (Bush in WH) Then, Bush took the correct intelligence and twisted it and lied about it because he wanted to go to war. Now, the intelligence agencies are all-knowing. Come on. Make up your feeble minds.

Fred:
You are a liar. Far from being a moving target, our position on the Iraq War hasn’t changed in literally years. And all of your disingenuous objections have been answered years ago. (Example: While it’s true that nearly everyone believed Saddam had at least some WMDs, many, including most of the intelligence people working on it, didn’t believe these weapons made him a serious threat to US security. And there was never any compelling justification for the various and sundry nuclear scaremongering the administration was engaging in back in late ‘02 and early ‘03.)
If there’s a moving target here, it’s the Administration’s justification for why we went into Iraq in the first place! Read the 2003 SOTU speech again, and compare it to what they’re saying now.
Comment 7/13/2007
You have a reading problem. I didn’t say you hadn’t objected to the Iraq war. I said liberals position had changed concerning the intelligence agencies’ assessments. First, you believed them while your man was president. Then you didn’t. Now you do. If you are going to be disagreeable, at least disagree with what I said.
BTW, like you, Joe Wilson is also a liar.
Comment 7/13/2007
Fred:
As my linked post points out, our position concerning the intelligence changed because the intelligence changed. Hussein was in a position that warranted action, action was taken (in 1998), and he was then no longer in that position.
Of course, I know it’s difficult for conservatives like you to grasp the concept of revising one’s opinion based on changing information — I know you folks believe it shows “resolve” to stick to your opinion no matter what the facts say…
And while we’re talking about liars, Scooter Libby is a liar, and was proven to be one in a court of law. Given your contempt for liars, I assume you condemn President Bush’s commutation of his legally-imposed prison sentence.
Comment 7/13/2007
“I assume you condemn President Bush’s commutation of his legally-imposed prison sentence.”
I do have contempt for liars. I don’t think Libby lied. I believe Bush was wrong for commuting his sentence. He should have given him a full pardon.
BTW, the commutation was legally imposed. It was no less legal than the sentence.
Comment 7/13/2007
“Hussein was in a position that warranted action, action was taken (in 1998), and he was then no longer in that position.”
LOL
Comment 7/13/2007
You don’t think Libby lied? Then maybe you’re not a liar — maybe you’re an idiot!
