Rove Resigns: Why?
Posted by Kevin

Rove is running away at the end of August. The question is why? Did major GOP players look at the disaster that was 2006 and the albatross that Rove has made of Bush and decided that they couldn’t afford any more of his genius? Or have one of the many, many scandals he had his finger in finally started to catch up to him? Remember, one of his closest aides is deeply involved in the Abramoff scandal and he has been implicated in the US Attorney scandals and his office was giving apparently illegal political briefing to civil servants.

Ans now that Rove is gone, does this mean that Cheney has even more influence on Bush?

Marcy Wheeler has some interesting speculation on the likely reasons for the move (”spending time with the family” comes in dead last, natch). She suspects that one or more of the investigations swirling around Rove (relating to Abramaff, the OSC investigation into illegal political manipulation of government agency operations, and the US Attorney firings) is getting ready to indict him, and he needed to be moved out of the White House to distance them from the fallout.

My bet is he’s resigning to go work for Romney in a few weeks.

    He’ll be back.

Did anybody believe Jay-Z when he said that he was retiring? Well, MC Rove wasn’t raised no sucka, either…

I concur with KTK…Rove resigned because he was an increasing embarrassment to the Dubya Administration. Rove is suspected of being a fellow traveler with Libby and Abramoff and other cronies of his. I wouldn’t be suprised if Rove get indicted on a perjury charge in the near future–among other things. His ‘take no prisoners’ attitude brings no sympathy from others under fire. I hope the screen door slaps him on the buttocks on his way out of the White House doors.
