All About the Hate
Posted by Kevin

“”I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.”
– Glenn Beck, October 22, 2007′

Who the hell thinks like that? There are a quarter of a million people living in hotels or shelters or friends’ couches right now, wondering if their homes are going to be ash, whether their business or place of employment will survive the fires when they can finally venture back into the area. How much bile must you consume, how little of your basic humanity must you have left in order to think that it is good for these people to suffer because of a political difference? And how far gone in viciousness and vileness must you be to express your glee at your countryman’s misfortune in a nationally televised television show named after yourself? And how far have we fallen as a country that this kind of eliminationist rhetoric, this lunacy of violence, is an accepted part of the everyday line up of one of the premier news channels in the country?

And don’t pretend that this is an isolated incident: the oh so respectable father of the blogosphere seems to think that this is worthy of defending. At the end of the day, you have to wonder if many right wingers have any animating force other than an absolute and overwhelming hatred of anyone not exactly like them.
