  2. Since when do we not put two spaces after a period? I was taught that through junior high and high school, in two different states no less.

    I think the two-space rule was a typewriter thing. With the advent of word processing, people stopped doing that. I worked at a newspaper and then later as a freelance writer, every editor I worked with told me to put just one space after a period. One quite vociferously: “Do you KNOW what a hassle it is for me to delete all of those extra spaces?!!!”

    Dude, “find/replace” is your friend.

The general rule, as I understand it, is that you use two spaces after a sentence-ending punctuation when using a fixed-width font like Courier, or on a typewriter. For proportional fonts, as on modern computers/word processors, use one space.
