   Turns out the guy who founded the group is a “legendary” GOP dirty tricks operative who got his start with Richard Nixon, and has been involved in dirt operations ever since. He was the leader of the GOP riot squad the physically assaulted vote counters in Florida in 2000. (He himself boasts of being the youngest participant in Watergate, and - you can’t make this shit up - has Richard Nixon’s head tattooed on his back.) The 527 group mentioned in your link has no assets, no policy positions, and is officially registered in the name of a Miami bartender who apparently doesn’t even know what the group is for.

   The entire point to the group is the name. That’s his strategy. And he’s quoted saying so openly. He created a group for the sole purpose of making a misogynist slur that rates at about the 7th-grade level.

   This is the Republican party. He’s not an outsider, he’s not an extremist (by their standards), he’s not a loose cannon. He’s a major player with deep roots in the GOP at the Presidential level, and this is the campaign strategy he came up with. This is how their party thinks. This is how their people behave. This is the highest level - politically, intellectually, morally - that they’re capable of reaching.

   There’s absolutely nothing new about it, and nothing surprising, if you’ve been paying attention. I just hope people finally start paying attention.
