A No Primary Zone
Posted by Kevin

Yeah, been a while since I have written. Life has been busy, and, ironically, will probably get so busy at the end of this week that I will once again disappear. Part of the reason I have written, though, is the primary season. Most of the news these days seems to be centered on the primary, and most of the blogs have been awash in primary news. And I am sick to death of it. Sick of the horse race stories masquerading as insight, sick of the “my candidate is holier than your candidate” schtick on supporters’ blogs, sick of the inane conversations about super delegates and who offended whom. So I am declaring my posts to be a primary free zone. I will not write one more word about the primary, about the super-delegates, about Pennsylvania or North Carolina or Florida or Michigan or re-votes or mail-in votes. Unless and until one candidate does the equivalent of shooting a puppy on stage (or, you now, actually does shoot a puppy on stage) I wash my hands of the whole thing.

Some political wonk you are. :)

Anyway, being sick of primaries is no excuse. You’ve got the economy, hookergate, the Fallon resignation, and a whole host of other prescient non-primary topics you’ve been neglecting. :)

Right on, bro’. I wrote something about Rev. Wright on Sunday and yes that is a self-plug but the point here is that I mentioned there that it’s only the third time I’ve posted anything related to the primaries and the other two were a look at the New Hampshire results in light of my concerns about electronic voting and a comment on the exclusion of Dennis Kucinich from the debate before the Nevada primary.

I really am tired of too many blogs and some news media (Are you listening, Countdown?) acting as if there is nothing else worthy of note happening anywhere in the world.

According the Columbia Journalism Review, 39% of all news coverage in the week of 1/14-1/20 was devoted to election-related stories. One percent of coverage over the same period was dedicated to Iraq.
