For the Record…

…I think I liked it better when the Brewers had the common decency to suck all year long, instead of just at the end of it. A little over two weeks ago, they were 3.5 games out of first, and led the wild card by 5.5 games. As of tonight, they’ve been practically eliminated from contention for the division, and trail the Phillies by one game are one-half game behind the also-collapsing Mets in the wild card, with 11 left to play. They could still make the playoffs, but they wouldn’t deserve it.

Tough to tell if firing their manager helped, because even though they lost today, they were at least competitive in that game — they haven’t sniffed competitiveness in a while. And, given the fact that C.C. Sabathia, Ben Sheets, and Prince Fielder are all almost certainly gone after this year (not that the latter two have been playing as though they realize they’re in a contract year, with the exception of Fielder today), I expect it will be a few years before they sniff it again.

Don’t worry: McCain needs the state so his spin-meisters have taken over the management of the breweers. The trainers have put lipstick on the pitching staff and third base coach has stated he can see Oct. 22nd from where he’s at.

    They’re fine.

As a Mets fan, I know the pain of a collapse. The Yost firing was a little peculiar - either the ultimate proactive decisive move, or the ultimate frenzied panic move. I guess we’ll see - even though I feel the effect of mgrs on the play of their teams are grossly overrated. If you ain’t ready and motivated in the thick of hunt with the prize in sight, I’m not sure the pot-bellied, grey-haired white guy filling out the line-up card is to blame…
