After 2000, McCain reportedly flirted with becoming a Democrat. One explanation for the bizarre Dadaist campaign he is running is that he actually did switch parties, but remained a sleeper agent in GOP ranks for the exress purpose of throwing the 2008 election.
It would explain a lot.
