Ugh.
The Giants’ playcalling on offense was inexplicable. Jacobs averaged nearly five yards a rush, but only got 19 touches. On multiple occassions the NYG lined up with an empty backfield on successive plays while firmly in the Eagles territory and proceeded to run uninspired routes.
They ran Jacobs to the outside more often than they normally do. They ran more often as the clock began to become their enemy. And, if you’re going to run in those situations, that would have been a good time to try to bring Bradshaw in and see if he could break off a big one.
Eli played poorly. I know part of the NYG looking bad was Philly playing well, and Philly’s D did play well. But, neither of those INTs were great plays, those were offensive miscues.
The NYG defense played rather well the first half. Westbrook was a non-factor in the first half and the Giants were down at the break. That is always reason to worry. The NYG significantly outplayed Philly in the 1st half and were losing at its conclusion. I was substantially worried by that.
In the second half, the NYG played acceptable. They didn’t force any turnovers and could not pressure McNabb with any consistency.
Eli did play poorly, but the most glaring ineptitude was how badly the team got out-coached.
Philly played a very good game. Not great, but very good. I’m not above tipping my hat to a rival.
There goes any chance at a bit of redemption for the baseball season. Sigh.
