Wait Your F*cking Turn
The CDC is distributing the much sought-after vaccine to Wall Street firms despite reports of vast shortages. In fact, just yesterday CDC Director Thomas Frieden informed Congress that only 32.3 million doses are available, far less than the 159 million needed to cover those at the highest risk. Given the scarce supply, the CDC has recommended the vaccine be directed only to those at highest risk: pregnant women, infants and children and those up to 24 years, those who care for infants, health and emergency services personnel, and adults with compromised immune systems or other chronic health problems.
Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today, “Although CREW has been unable to uncover the demographic makeup of Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and JP Morgan Chase, it seems safe to assume the vast majority of their employees are not pregnant women, infants and children, young adults up to 24 years old, and healthcare workers.”
There is no excuse for this. The person or people who approved this need to be fired. The people who designed the program so that companies got the vaccine before doctors and hospitals need to be fired. Every person at these companies that is getting government bailout money and who accepted these vaccines needs to be fired. The fact that anyone at these companies thinks they are more important than the people in the high risk groups is proof enough of their over-inflated sense of themselves. In a quite literal sense, this decision could kill someone so a pampered little Wall Street sh*t can get a little peace of mind. It is disgusting.
The funny thing is that in Canada, the Calgary Flames hockey team was given flu shots, ostensibly because they do a lot of hospital visits to sick kids and travel a lot. But the Ministry of Health didn’t buy the excuse and fired the person who approved it.

I know — Tgirsch and I were just laughing about that about an hour before I saw this. Canada, apparently, get sit, evne if the Flames don’t.
Perhaps we should hold our fire until more details emerge. On its surface this raises an eyebrow or two but from what I can see this doesn’t actually specify if Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Citigroup got a vaccination for everyone or just enough to cover their high-risk employees. Goldman Sachs ordered 5,400 doses for its employees and only got 200, and Morgan Stanley after hearing some hospitals hadn’t received anything yet donated all 1000 doses it received. There might be something here to get righteously indignant about but maybe we should keep the powder dry just a bit longer.
“and Morgan Stanley after hearing some hospitals hadn’t received anything yet donated all 1000 doses it received. T”
You mean they did that after the bad publicity.
And at any rate, the fact that companies can jump ahead of medical facilities is bad enough. if they have high risk employees, then those employees can get their doses along with the rest of the high risk population. Where, after all, we can be sure that they are actually high risk.
In a way it’s kinda funny. If I sat and thought “How, realistically, could Wall Street make itself look any worse right now?” I don’t know that I would have been able to come up with this.
Of course what Morgan Stanley did was a shameless PR stunt. At least it ended well.
It’s time to make sure we have plenty of torches and that the tines on the pitchforks are sharp. I’m just not ready to march yet. The shortage is massive enough that a bunch of people were going to get screwed. If we’re going to say Wall Street firms shouldn’t get medication for their high-risk employees just because they’re Wall Street firms then fine but it’s not fair to deny them medication on the basis their on Wall Street either.
Shouldn’t the bankers be placed in the line with the lawyers? That would be in the last place

To put this in perspective, I called my family doctor to see if my girls should get it. He said he wasn’t recommending it for healthy children, but if parents wanted it for their kids, the office had it. But that my girls really didn’t need anything other than the regular flu shot.
Reading between the lines: H1N1 vaccine can’t hurt, but probably won’t help.

My 12 year old has asthma. I still can’t get the shot vaccine near me in florida. I can get the vaccine that goes in the nose but no shot. My doctor said he needs the shot because it is a dead virus. something like that. Unbelievable.

I called my kid’s doctor and he said as soon as he gets in the vaccine, he will call us. That was 2 months ago. We called over there recently and they said in a couple of weeks. They said that 2 months ago.
